BLACKPINK’s Jennie has found herself at the center of an online controversy following a viral video from the group’s DEADLINE World Tour kickoff concert in Goyang on July 5–6.
During the high-energy performance of Forever Young, Jennie’s shoelace came undone on stage, prompting her to seek quick help from a crew member.
In the now-viral clip, Jennie is seen briefly attempting to tie the shoelace herself but realizes she’s about to resume singing. She rushes to a staff member, gestures with her finger seemingly to show how to tie it, and exhibits a facial expression that some interpreted as frustrated.
Critics quickly took to social media to call Jennie’s behavior “rude” and “disrespectful.” One user commented, “If she didn’t like the way they did it, she should’ve done it herself.”
However, fans came to her defense, arguing that the situation was misinterpreted. They explained that loud music and the staff member’s earpiece likely necessitated exaggerated gestures for clear communication. Another camera angle showed Jennie smiling warmly after the interaction, which fans say proves her intent wasn’t disrespectful.

The shoelace incident took place during BLACKPINK’s first stadium world tour, which began in Goyang and runs through January 2026 with 31 shows in 16 cities. Tickets sold out within minutes on May 15.
The concert also debuted their new track Jump, which received mixed reactions—some praised its energy, while others found it less impactful than earlier hits.
Opening night drew criticism over blocked “zero-visibility” seats in section N3, despite fans paying 132,000 won (~$98). YG Entertainment later apologized and promised action for those affected.
Despite these hiccups, BLACKPINK’s DEADLINE tour remains one of the most anticipated events in K-pop, drawing tens of thousands of fans and an A-list roster of celebrity attendees.
